8 DAYS UNTIL THE BIG 1-3: POSITIVE ACTIVITIES!

8days

In honor of Jamia’s 13th Birthday coming up on August 21st we, JamiaNashFans.Com, will be counting down the days with her with all sorts of memories and interactive activities.

DAY 8 Just 8 more days y’all!!! Today is not just for Jamia, but for ALL you teens out there who need some new positive and fun ways to keep yourselves busy. When you become a teenager, there’s no doubt that some of the things you’re interested in begin to change. Therefore, teens tend to get bored a lot, which sometimes results in them getting into things that they shouldn’t be doing. The best way for teens to stay in line is to keep their days busy and filled with positive activities. What are some cool activities that teens can enjoy doing after school and homework is complete? What do YOU do to stay out of trouble (besides watch TV or surf the net)? Let’s share with fellow teens/teens-to-be.

Let’s get at least 8 comments and check back tomorrow for day 7 (officially one week). We will be focusing a lot more on JAMIA for the rest of the countdown!

I would recommend joining a school/community club… It could be an art club, dance team, chorus, etc… I would also try to volunteer at fun and interesting places.. that would give you a head start for high school when you have to do more volunteer hours! As for more fun activities, things like going skating, swimming, etc with friends are cool!

Well i enjoy making graphics and being creative! I like to dance, sing, model and write. I also just took up sewing and will soon begin vocal and maybe dance lessons. I also like to play the piano! Its fun once you get use to it! Dancing is also amazing! It can also be a stress reliever and just get your mind off things. Singing is also amazing which I dont have to tell you lol! But I enjoy singing although Im not that good its still fun! I sing on my karaoke machine and I got a macbook for Christmas so I create my own little songs and add special affects thats where the creativity plays a part! Modeling is also amazing I started when I was 14! And ever since its been amazing!!! At first it was just a test to see how I would take to it and I LOVE it! Im actually gonna model to help pay for college and just make a savings account for when Im “All Grown Up” and living on my own! Writing is also very amazing!!! I write songs, poetry, plays, and short stories! Im actually working on a book right now that will probably be more popular with pre-teens/teens! Its called “”The Perfect World” I started writing it when I was a freshman. And its going Great! I also like to bake. Im a HUGE Paula Deen and Neeleys fan so I try out their recipes ALOT lol. Another thing you could do is read! I use to HATE reading but its actually fun now lol. Once you find a good book you would probably never put it down and next thing you know you’re on the last page lol. One book that I really enjoy that I’ve read about 6 times lol is “Please Stop Laughing at Me” by Jodee Blanco. I dont want to write to much so you can look it up to see what its about its mainly about a girl and her struggle to fit in! But its really GREAT! And another thing I do is shop which probably isnt such an amazing piece of advice lol. But its really FUN lol even if you just window shop its GREAT! But theres alot to do to stay out of trouble you can also get a really cool job like walk dogs and babysit since you’re still not old enough to get a real job like working at a store. But it keeps you out of trouble and you might find it fun! Hope this helps!!! Love Ya!!!!

Some positive things I always did to keep busy were ARTS AND CRAFTS/ SCRAP BOOKING – Making scrap books of you and your friends, family or other subjects is cool and fun! Keeps you busy too…

When I was younger I was in the Gymnastic team, that was what kept me busy. I was also in a dance group. So what I would advice teens is, just find out what you like and where your talents are so you can join a club/group/team. Also help out with activities for your neighboorhood, to keep the kids busy. Come with ideas of what you’d like to have around so you won’t have to be bored.

You should take up knitting! its extremely fun! learning new stuff… and all the things you can make. You can also be creative and make up new things. Crocheting is very similar and you can do many things with that.

Also I always like to make lanyard like crafts. you can make some pretty awesome keychains and things and they’re are great websites to explore about making them.

another favorite of mine is making friendship bracelets. They’re really fun in the summer. wear them to the beach. they look super cute! :)

Last but not least I like to write. Writing poetry and thinking up plays and stories an things. It will keep you busy and its fun. There are so many things you can do. Try out lots of different things to find what’s right for you!

Speaking of crocheting, there’s this one girl who just started her own little business making earrings, headbands and other things. My grandmom make and sell blankets, sweater and hat sets for newborns, ponchos for little girls and beanie hats and scarf sets. It’s really cool. That’s another thing you all could do to keep you busy. Starting your own small business, making and selling things you ENJOY making. It’s nothing like getting paid just to do what you love! :)

Don’t just sit in the house… go out and EXPLORE YOUR SURROUNDINGS! It’s fun, go out and see everything that your city has to offer. Don’t be a couch (or computer chair) potato!

Here are some cool things I used to do as a teen that other teens might like: *Start your own little magazine displaying your creativity, style and things that matter to you. You could share it with family, friends, classmates, and if you make an online magazine you can share it with the world! *Start a service project in your neighborhood, it could be something like to helping to raise goods for a charity, mentoring less fortunate kids, or even doing crafts with the elderly at a shelter (remember they were teens once too :) You can get a grant from an organization like Do Something or Youth Venture to get started! *Start a business – Is there something you love to do that you want to share with others and make some money along the way, maybe cooking, crafting or some type of service? It’s always cool to start a business when you’re young because everyone wants to support you, and you get to learn a lot along the way. When I was a teen the organization NFTE helped me get started and bring my business to the next level, so check it out. *Remember what’s important – spend lots of time with your family, bugging your siblings and thanking God for your blessings!

There are lots to do to keep teens busy. I really know because between personal interest and my mom signing me up for different clubs and lessons, I have done alot, stayed out of trouble, kept my grades up, and these were all positive activies and experiences. If you don’t know to swim or your not a good swimmer, you could take swimming lessons. If you are a good/great swimmer you could join a swim team or do synchronized swimming. It’s really good cardiovascular exercise. You could play an instrument or two. When I was 14, I had flute and piano lessons. You could take up martial arts. There’s always tennis. I had tennis lessons when I was younger. It’s a great work out and it’s good for eye, hand, feet, coordination. Cooking lessons are a good idea, especially ones that teach how to cook simple but yet delicious meals from around the world. I took cooking lessons like those and it was fun, we learned how to make asian dishes like spring rolls and egg rolls with dipping sauce and fortune cookies, mexican dishes like how to make flour and corn torilla shells, tortilla chips, and fresh salsa, and an italian dish on how to make pizza including making the dough and grating blocks of cheese. Learning another language is nice. My mom enrolled me in classes and bought me alot of additional learning material for spanish, french, german, and sign language. Ever thought of sewing or quilting. With quilting it can take up to a month or more depending on the design and how elaborate you want to make it. With sewing, I found it fun making denim skirts, wallets, and drawstring bags. You can get very creative with sewing after you’ve mastered a simple pattern design. Taking art lessons is great too. There are lots to choose from such as pottery, clay sculptures, oil painting, water color painting, and etc. You can try taking up chess and or join a chess club. The first time, I learned I thought it was hard, but after awhile I found it fun and challenging mentally. Last but not least, you could start researching high schools, by seeing what curriculum they offer, what kinds of clubs do they have, do they have a foreign language club that travels outside the country (some schools do and it’s a nice experience, if your interested), and after you have narrowed down your choices, you can try to set up a tour of the school, and to meet with the principal, some of the teachers, and an academic counselor/advisior. I hope I was helpful. Bye!!
